Electrical structure of the atom

An atom consists of a positively charged nucleus and negative electrons, while a neutral atom has equal charges.

Losing electrons forms a positive ion, gaining extra electrons forms a negative ion.

Law of conservation of charge

The algebraic sum of the electric charges of a closed system remains constant.

During electrification, a charge is not created out of nothing: electrons move between bodies, maintaining a total charge.

Elementary charge

The electric charge of a body changes in portions that are multiples in absolute value of the charge of one electron.

Divisibility of charge does not mean the possibility of obtaining an arbitrary small fraction in ordinary school experiments.
