Basic Concepts
Gas pressure
Gas pressure arises due to the impact of continuously moving particles on the walls of the container.
As the volume decreases, the frequency of impacts may increase, so the gas acts more strongly on each unit of wall area.
Solid pressure
A physical quantity equal to the force acting perpendicular to a surface divided by the area of that surface.
Wide skis reduce pressure on the snow, while a sharp blade increases pressure for the same amount of force applied.
Pascal's law
The pressure exerted on a liquid or gas is transmitted without change in all directions.
The law explains the operation of hydraulic devices and the equal transmission of additional pressure through a fluid at rest.
